Ben While is a Senior Consultant Eye Surgeon and director of Hereford Vision. His NHS practice is with Wye Valley Trust.
Mr While is a specialist in state-of-the-art micro incision cataract and lens replacement surgery. He is also an oculoplastic surgeon – a specialist in eyelid and tear drainage surgery. He regularly audits his results and continuously develops his practice to ensure the most up-to-date treatments and excellent outcomes for patients.
Mr While grew up in Herefordshire and has a deep affinity with the area. He is completely committed to bringing excellence in eye care to our region and supports that by also acting as a cataract surgery tutor for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

Training
Mr While went to the University of London, where he completed his medical training and a degree in the History of Medicine.
Mr While then underwent surgical training in Oxford, becoming a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. This training included experience in a broad range of specialties related to periocular plastic surgery. He undertook ophthalmology training in Sheffield and Manchester and is now a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. During this time, Mr While developed expertise in cataract surgery, involving himself in the development of strategies that improve outcomes and reduce complications.
Mr While undertook further sub-specialist training in Sheffield as a fellow in eyelid, eye socket, and tear drainage surgery, including the diagnosis and management of tumours of the eye and eyelids.
Mr While is a life member and committee member of the British Emergency Eye Care Society, and a member of the British Oculoplastic Surgeons Society.
Mr While has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals and is himself a peer reviewer for many journals. These contributions further demonstrate his dedication to helping maintain the highest standards of evidence in Ophthalmic practice.

Personal Approach
Mr While’s approach to patient care is individualised. Every patient is different, with different needs, hopes and expectations. He feels that the key to achieving successful outcomes is spending time listening to and understanding each patient. Treatment plans are made in collaboration with patients, with time to consider and discuss what would be the best way forward.
If you decide to proceed with surgery, Mr While and the team at The Wye Clinic will work tirelessly to make the process is as stress-free as possible. You will have time to ask questions before and afterwards, and you will also be given written information (including Mr While’s mobile phone number) should you need to get in touch after your surgery.
Follow-up is included in your surgical package, so you do not need to worry about extra hidden costs in coming back to see Mr While after your surgery.
